Canada is still here
Although the Canadian XV has not stood out since the 1991 quarter final, the team has participated in all Rugby World Cups to date and 2007 will be no different.
Following the example of the great Rugby nations around the world, Canada is a regular participant at the World Cup. However their regular presence has not been enough to open doors to success. The players with the famous maple leaf adorning their shirts have not gone beyond the pool stages since 1991 when they were defeated in the quarter finals by the eventual world champions New Zealand (13-29)... in Lille. In order to get to the same stage in 2007, the Canadians will have to win their way through pool B which also includes Australia, Wales and Fiji...
Following the retirement of Gareth Rees, the greatest try scorer in Canadian rugby history (492 points), and Al Charron, with the most caps (76), Canada is looking for a new lease of life. Faced with ever increasing competition from their American neighbour, Canada has kept its spot at the top of the north American table thanks to the experience gained by several players that train and play with teams in England and France....The Canadians hope they will shine in France once again as they did in 1991.
