New Zealand Begins 2011 Planning

Rugby New Zealand (RNZ) 2011 Ltd. has kicked off discussions with key stakeholders around New Zealand on the process of selecting towns, cities and regions to host teams and matches during Rugby World Cup (RWC) 2011.

RNZ 2011 Ltd. will host the first of three workshops in Auckland today to engage with provincial rugby unions, town, city and regional councils, regional and national tourism organisations and rugby venues around the approach to allocating teams and matches.

Workshops will follow in Christchurch and Wellington with the aim of encouraging towns, cities and regions to begin to think about how they approach the opportunities associated with New Zealand's hosting of RWC.

"Rugby World Cup 2011 is expected to generate more than a billion dollars in economic activity across New Zealand and major events around the world continue to demonstrate they can deliver long-term benefits to countries which host them," said RNZ 2011 Ltd. CEO Martin Snedden.

"These workshops are intended to give Provincial Unions, local authorities, venues and tourism bodies a chance to consider the opportunities, provide input into how the process will be organised and what information they will require as the team and match allocation process gets underway later this year."
